Rome to New York

With an impressive cast, Megalopolis presents itself as a “epic Roman fable set in an imaginary modern America”. According to the synopsis, the city of New Rome is the scene of a conflict between César Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who wishes to move the city towards a utopia, and Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito) who prefers to perpetuate the greed, special interests and partisan warfare.

The socialite spawn of the mayor, Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), finds her feelings squeezed, because her love for Caesar has undermined her filial loyalty and forces her to determine what humanity deserves in her eyes.

In addition to Driver (Ferrari), Esposito (breaking Bad) and Emmanuel (Game Of Thrones), the distribution of Megalopolis counts on the talents of Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Shia Labeouf (transformers), Jon Voight (the saga Benjamin Gates), Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City), Laurence Fishburne (Matrix), Kathryn Hunter (Poor creatures), Grace VanderWaal (Stargirl), Chloe Fineman (Babylon), James Remar (Oppenheimer), D.B. Sweeney (Stone Gardens) and Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man).

  • Check out the first trailer for Megalopolis :

Megalopolis is a long-running project of Coppola's, having begun writing it in 1983 and spending largely his own money. To finance this film with a budget of $120 million, the director sold part of his wine estate in California.

Despite the dizzying and spectacular images, this ambitious project does not have a distributor everywhere. In the United States, it has not yet found a buyer, because it was considered too unusual by those to whom it was presented.

In France, where the film will be screened in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 17, Megalopolis is distributed by Le Pacte. No release date has been communicated yet.
