A broken family

Trailers for the series House of the Dragon are multiplying as it prepares its big return on Max in June. New images from this HBO Original show have been posted online, showing that while the kingdom is divided by the conflict between Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and his mother Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), things are at their worst within the Targaryen family.

No one seems to know for sure who should wear the crown, not even Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) who seems to have reservations about his wife's ability to rule!

Armies are therefore assembled, dragons ridden, and there begins “the Dance of the Dragons”, the civil war between the Targaryens and Hightower. But it is above all revenge and doubt that seem to occupy the minds of the characters in House of the Dragon this season.

As described by the showrunner and co-creator of the series, Ryan Condal, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Season 2 is the march towards war.

It's very much a Cold War because each side is undeniably trying to take the throne without going fully into a war with dragons. We do this through conspiracies, backstabbing, assassinations, spy games and everything you would see in a classic James Bond set in the middle of the Cold War.”

This second season will also feature new characters (like Cregan Stark played by Tom Taylor, who can be seen in this trailer) while revisiting key locations in the universe of Game Of Thrones such as the fortress of Harrenhal, burned down in season 1 and presumably haunted, where Daemon will go.
