Marvel expects to hit theaters next month with Deadpool & Wolverinewhose ticket presales are already showing good figures at the box office. To continue this momentum, it seems that the studio wishes to continue working with its director Shawn Levy, and thus plans to entrust him with the reins of the next film Avengers.

According to the sources of Hollywood Reporterdiscussions between Marvel and Levy are still very preliminary but it appears that the studio has provided the director with the latest version of the script for the next Avengersexpected in theaters in April 2026.

Shawn Levy is, it seems, not the only filmmaker Marvel is considering for this job, especially since the studio already offered him a directing role last March, which Levy was then forced to turn down for reasons timetable reasons.

The fact that Marvel is contacting Levy again at this point indicates that their collaboration on Deadpool & Wolverine worked very well and the studio wants this partnership to continue. But as Levy is a very busy director and producer – he notably has roles on the series Netflix Stranger Things – we don't yet know if the stars will align this time.

As a reminder, Avengers 5 was once known under the title Avengers: The Kang Dynastybut following the setbacks of actor Jonathan Majors (who played Kang) with the law, the studio has changed direction for this new opus.

The latest version of the script was written by Michael Waldronscreenwriter behind the series Loki on Disney+. The film was also, for a time, to be directed by the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsDestin Daniel Cretton, but the latter left the project in September 2023.

The least we can say is that this future “team-up” of the Avengers is still only at the development stage and that between now and 2026, the pieces of the Marvel puzzle still have the time to move.

Before that, Levy will be busy next month with promoting Deadpool & Wolverinewhich arrives in theaters on July 24 and is the only MCU film to be released in theaters in 2024. The others are almost all available for streaming on Disney+.
