**EMBARGO June 6 @12:00 **

Tamron today announces its 50-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (you can catch your breath), its new compact and powerful telephoto lens for Sony 24x36mm bodies (FE mount). After several generations of optics starting at 70mm (70-300 type), Tamron intentionally directed its efforts to expand wide-angle shooting. This is to make its optics more versatile, which displays a magnification coefficient (zoom) x6.

Tamron being Tamron, special care has been taken when shooting up close, with a minimum focusing distance at 50mm of just 22cm. Which results in a magnification coefficient of 1:2 (or x0.5) which clearly approaches the macro.

With 19 elements in 14 groups, this telephoto zoom lens benefits from a complex optical formula with two XLD (extra low dispersion) elements and two LD (low dispersion) lens elements which contain chromatic aberrations and other parasites. The VC designation indicates the presence of optical stabilization, always necessary in telephoto lenses where the low angular coverage limits the performance of the mechanical stabilization of the sensor.

Although it is not a very high-end lens with its medium apertures, Tamron ensures that the optical formula and surface treatments guarantee resolution from the center to the corner of each image. We will have to see in reality, the zooms with large coefficients necessarily make concessions. Concessions necessary to develop a zoom covering a 24×36 mm image circle and weighing only 665g.

In terms of autofocus, the VXD mention in the name of the lens indicates the presence of a linear focusing motor. Engine which will have the advantage of not making noise in video. Although this type of lens is not strictly speaking a video lens, this silence will remain appreciable, particularly for users who want to produce small clips (animal, car, etc.) in addition to photographic work. And Tamron makes it clear that thanks to its special relationship with Sony, its zoom is compatible with Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF technologies.

The Tamron 50-300 mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD will be available from June 27 at €949 for Sony 24×36 mm bodies (E & FE mounts).
