Galaxy AI was announced this year, alongside its latest flagships, the Galaxy S24. This new feature, described as heralding a new era for Samsung, offers many new features. Among them, instant translation, various tools for professionals (such as the ability to summarize a multi-page PDF for example), optimization of writing in instant messaging or even generative photo editing.

In a few days, Samsung will also announce the arrival of Galaxy AI on its next foldable smartphone models, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, including The technical specifications have also just been leaked. So, at Samsung, it will be necessary to deal with artificial intelligence in the future, it is now a certainty. But if, until now the function has been offered for free by the South Korean manufacturer, it could well become chargeable in the years to come.

Galaxy AI to be paid by 2026

In a press release from Samsung released yesterday, the firm announced that it would further extend the capabilities of Galaxy AI through a broader Galaxy ecosystem, including the opening of 7 new experimental stores, the Galaxy Experience Spaces. In France, this experience was available from January 17 to February 14 at the Westfield de la Défense, and a new store is now opening from July 10 to the end of October on the Champs Elysées. But that's not the information we're interested in here.

The key information from this press release was rather hidden in the footnotes: within them, it is indicated that Samsung intends to charge for its artificial intelligence tool from 2026. Furthermore, it is read that “Galaxy AI features will be offered free of charge until the end of 2025 on all compatible Galaxy devices”. You will therefore have to dig into your pocket from 2026 to continue to benefit from these new features, even if the payment requested is obviously still not known. One-off payment or subscription? No doubt that Samsung will be clearer on this subject in the coming months.
