How the price table works

Nintendo has made official the existence of its future consolecalled Switch 2 for convenience. Pending its presentation which would take place in March 2025spoiler Moore's Law is Dead shares some information about it. According to this YouTube channel, Nintendo is focusing on improving performance in docked mode while maintaining optimal energy efficiency in portable mode.

A focus on energy efficiency in nomadic mode?

The Switch 2 would operate at 5 watts in portable mode with a fanless cooling system compared to 15 to 30 watts in docked mode depending on the game load. To compensate for this increase in power, Nintendo would integrate a specific cooling solution.

Performance-wise, the Switch 2's chip is reportedly designed with a focus on power efficiency. Compared to the Steam Deck, the console is said to have a slightly lower average FPS. Moore's Law is Dead explains that a game running at 90 FPS on Valve's machine would run at 60 FPS on Nintendo's. For 60 FPS on the Steam Deck, the leaker is talking about 40 FPS on the Switch 2 via Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology.

DLSS and ray tracing would be there

The presence of an NVIDIA GPU would allow for the inclusion of upscaling technologies such as Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), which improves image quality without excessively impacting performance. The possibility of ray tracing support is also mentioned.

To summarize, the Nintendo Switch 2 would offer increased performance in docked mode while having excellent battery life in portable mode via a chip optimized for energy efficiency. Although slightly less powerful than the Steam Deck, it would benefit from image improvement technologies such as DLSS, or even ray tracing. Of course, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
