Samsung's in-house artificial intelligence, Galaxy AIwas presented at the end of last year. Among the most striking features of this presentation, Live Translate sparked a lot of discussion. In theory, this function allows you to immediately translate voice conversations with a foreign contact. Samsung presented this revolutionary function by indicating that the smartphone would be able to provide real-time translations, both text and audio for a better fluidity of the conversation. And to ensure the confidentiality of the exchanges, the South Korean manufacturer had announced that the process would be done locally, since Galaxy AI is directly integrated into the device.

Currently, Live Translate supports 13 different languages, but the service is currently only available through native apps that come with every new Samsung smartphone. In the past, the South Korean giant has signaled its desire to extend Live Translate to third-party apps. Now, that prediction seems to be coming true for one of the most widely used chat apps in the world: WhatsApp.

WhatsApp first beneficiary of Live Translate

According to popular Samsung product leaker IceUniverse (@UniverseIce on X/Twitter), “Galaxy AI to power WhatsApp's real-time translation“. This would be the first third-party application to benefit from such technology, especially since it may not be the only one. Other services such as Facebook Messenger, Google Meet, Telegram or Viber could also be eligible.

Please note that while for the moment all of the functions offered by Galaxy AI are accessible free of charge to users with eligible devices, Samsung's use of artificial intelligence could become profitable by 2025. The devices compatible with Galaxy AI (and therefore with this new feature for WhatsApp) are particularly recent: these are the Galaxy S24, S23 and S22 ranges, as well as the latest models of foldable smartphones (Z Fold 4, 5 and Z Flip 5). There is no doubt that the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 presented today during the Galaxy Unpacked will also be entitled to it.
