In a dedicated blog postApple took the time to talk about these “revolutionary health features.”
As we were discussing in an article the addition made to the AirPods Pro 2we are now focusing on the signs of sleep disorders identified by the Apple company's connected watches.
Apple Watch Sleep Apnea Detection
Recalling that the quality of sleep plays an essential role in everyone's health, Apple takes the time to define sleep apnea: “a common disorder in which breathing stops momentarily, blocking the supply of oxygen.”
The pathology affects more than a billion people, most of whom have not received a diagnosis according to the Apple company. A health hazard when we know that sleep apnea causes “an increased risk of hypertension, type II diabetes and heart problems”.
The Apple Watch Series 10, Series 9 and Ultra 2 thus become an ally in detecting signs of sleep apnea.
Apple explains that it developed the measure Breathing disturbancesleveraging the watches' accelerometer to identify “subtle wrist movements linked to disruption of normal breathing rates during sleep.”
After 30 days, the company's latest smartwatches analyze the data collected and alert the user if there is a sign of moderate to severe sleep apnea. This will allow them to discuss it with a specialist, and if necessary obtain treatment.
The Health app displays data collected over a period of one, six or twelve months. Apple also specifies that it is possible to make a PDF export composed of the times of potential sleep apnea and the history of respiratory disturbances for the last three months.
