While a major new update is generally welcomed positively by many iPhone users, it can sometimes be viewed with concern: potential bugs, compatibility issues with certain applications… So much so that some consumers prefer to be able to stay on iOS 17 a little longer before making the transition. The good news is that Apple will allow this year to stay on iOS 17 a little longer while taking advantage of security updates in order to take your time if desired.

Apple to release iOS 17.7 with security updates

On Monday, the Cupertino firm took advantage of its famous keynote to release the beta of its public version of iOS 18 named iOS 18.0 RC (for Release candidate). At the same time, Apple also deployed iOS 17.7 RC for developers and beta testers. This new update does not add any new features. However, it allows you to keep the smartphone up to date in terms of security. This is the perfect solution for users who do not want to take the step directly to iOS 18, while avoiding any vulnerability inherent in keeping an old iise up to date.

IOS 17.7 should be released at the same time as iOS 18 next week. As a reminder, Apple has planned to start rolling out iOS 18 on September 16. So, next Monday, iPhone users eligible for the upgrade to iOS 18 will be able to go to their settings and choose between upgrading to the new major operating system update or iOS 17.7, which will allow the status quo for a while, while waiting for iOS 18 to stabilize for good and allow full compatibility with all the user's applications.
