iPhone 16, AirPods 4 and Apple Watch Ultra 2: the small new features not announced during the keynote
iPhone 16AirPods 4 and AirPods Max, Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 2, Apple put on a show yesterday during a one-hour and 40-minute keynote. After all the blog posts and product sheets were shared by Apple, some information not mentioned during the conference stood out.
iPhone 16
RAM
As expected, Apple has increased the amount of available RAM on iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. This brings the amount to 8 GB, the same as the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro. This choice is purely and simply linked to the introduction of Apple Intelligence, which needs more resources to function.
Moreover, we already knew since WWDC 2024 that the 6 GB of RAM of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus were not enough, given that the smartphones were not in the list of models compatible with the Apple company's suite of AI tools.
Wifi 7
Connectivity has also gained speed. wifi standard 7 is indeed part of all iPhone 16s, replacing the wifi 6 of the iPhone 15/15 Plus and the wifi 6E of the iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max.
In short, Wi-Fi 7 technology allows you to benefit from an additional frequency (6 GHz), a faster speed (up to 46 Gb/s) and an increased bandwidth (320 MHz).
AirPods 4
Although USB-C is finally reaching Apple's open-fit earbuds with the AirPods 4the universal charging port brings with it the end of an accessory included in the box: the USB-C to USB-C cable.
A blessing in disguise, given that USB-C cables are already in every home thanks to their widespread use on a slew of tech products. Reusing one won't hurt, and will limit the sometimes unnecessary accumulation of these devices.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
L'Apple Watch Ultra 2 was given a few minutes of conference time to announce a new titanium finish for the case: “satin black”.
It is still interesting to note that Apple's premium smartwatches have also been given new features from theApple Watch Series 10.
The technical sheets now mention the real-time display of water temperature for the Apple Watch Ultra 1 and Ultra 2, while listening to music and podcasts via the speaker is limited to the Ultra 2.
