Not mentioned during the keynote of this 2024 return to school, the autonomy of iPhone 16 is still a nice surprise compared to the 2023 generation.

Battery life of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus

Compared to the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 gains two hours of additional video playback and video streaming. Thus, in these areas, we reach 22 hours and 18 hours of autonomy.

The iPhone 16 Plus reaches 27 hours of video playback and 24 hours of video streaming, one hour and four hours more than its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Plus.

On the audio streaming side, nothing has changed for these two non-Pro models: up to 80 hours for the iPhone 16, compared to 100 hours for the iPhone 16 Plus.

Battery life of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max

Now let's move on to the big guys of this 2024 iPhone generation. TheiPhone 16 Pro enjoys a maximum endurance of 27 hours in video playback (+4 hours compared to the iPhone 15 Pro), 22 hours in video streaming (+2 hours) and 85 hours in audio playback (+10 hours).

Finally, theiPhone 16 Pro Max is the best equipped in the range in terms of autonomy:

  • Video playback – Up to 33 hours (+4 hours vs. iPhone 15 Pro Max)
  • Video streaming – Up to 29 hours (+4 hours)
  • Audio streaming – Up to 105 hours (+10 hours)

Why better autonomy?

To justify these increased autonomy, Apple explains on its page dedicated to the iPhone 16 Pro that it has integrated “larger batteries”, which also take advantage of the better energy performance of the A18 Pro chip.

On the non-Pro side, Apple admits to having added “a larger battery, which combines with the A18 chip to give you superior battery life.”

It still seems very likely that this gain is largely due to the A18, engraved in 3 nm compared to 5 nm on the A17 of the iPhone 15/15 Plus. This better finesse indeed ensures much better energy efficiency.

Better MagSafe wireless fast charging

In addition to battery life, fast charging has also evolved with the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro. Where wired charging has not evolved, wireless technology has MagSafe now reaches the power of 25 W.

This allows Apple's new smartphones to go from 0 to 50% battery in just 30 minutes on the iPhone 16/16 Plus, compared to 35 minutes on the iPhone 16 Pro/16 Pro Max. In short, we are now on performances similar to wired charging.
