The next smartphones expected in the Xiaomi universe are in the high-end category, since the 14T models have been talked about for a few weeks. But they will not be alone by the end of 2024, since the brand is starting to talk about another range: that of the Redmi Note 14. These affordable smartphones should be made official in the last quarter, like the Redmi Note 13 to which they are called to succeed.

While the material durability of smartphones is increasingly being highlighted by smartphone manufacturers, it is the water resistance of the future Redmi Note 14 that Xiaomi is talking about. Thomas Wang, general manager from Redmi division, confirmed that the range will be entitled to an IP68 certification guaranteeing their waterproofness. It remains to be determined which devices will be affected: because, as every year, we expect the presentation of at least three versions of the product (Redmi Note 14 – perhaps in 4G and 5G versions -, Redmi Note 14 Pro and Redmi Note 14 Pro +), and it is not certain that all of them will be affected. It should be remembered that the Redmi Note 13 Pro + was the only one to benefit from an IP68 certification, while the rest of the range is content with IP54, indicating resistance to splashes.

Thomas Wang goes a little further, and evokes a “very high resistance to falls”which could point to an even more advanced durability certification (why not MIL-STD-810H), and wonders about a possible commercial guarantee supplementing these stamps. It tease finally a long-lasting autonomy, which suggests a battery capacity that is probably higher, if we compare it to the 5000 mAh of the Redmi Note 13. Finally, let us specify that the first leaks already surround the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, for which there is talk of a curved Oled 1.5K screen, a main photo sensor of 50 megapixels and a chip probably signed MediaTek, while the Redmi Note 14 Pro would be entitled to a chipset Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. One unknown remains, however: the update policy that Xiaomi will apply to its devices, with Redmi currently being limited to three years of OS upgrades.
