The Franchise (Max): HBO mocks Marvel and DC films with its new comedy
In Hollywood, some people have a sense of self-mockery. This is the case at Warner Bros. Discovery, since HBO (the group's channel) will soon release a new comedy that pokes fun at superhero films “à la Marvel and DC” (the latter being produced by Warner). The Franchise is expected on Max on October 7th and its teaser reveals the story of the chaotic shooting of a film.
A series that makes fun of the MCU
If you liked Veep And Avenue 5two HBO comedies that were already satire, The Franchise should please you. The series was created by Armando Iannucci (Veep) and Jon Brown (Succession), with Sam Mendes (Skyfall) responsible for the production of the first episode.
According to its official synopsis, The Franchise intends to follow “the team of an unloved franchise fighting for its place in the ruthless world of cinema”.
The objective is therefore to put “sheds light on the secret chaos within superhero movies.” In short, the series aims to explore how cinematic magic works, “because all failures have an origin story”.
The cast includes Himesh Patel (Yesterday), Aya Cash (The Boys), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the Dead), Billy Magnussen (Road House), Lolly Adefope (Ghosts), Darren Goldstein (Sharper) and Isaac Powell (American Horror Story). Richard E. Grant (Saltburn) and Daniel Brühl (Becoming Karl Lagerfeld) are also there in recurring roles.
