Google Makes Gemini Live Free for All Android Users (But There's a Catch)
First shown at the Pixel 9 series launch event, the mode Gemini Live is now available to a much wider audience. Originally available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers, it is now available for everyone, and for free.
Gemini for all
In its conquest of the artificial intelligence market, this is what it lacked: accessibility for all. With Gemini Live Now available for free to all Android users, Google is now offering a viable and free alternative to ChatGPT. To use it, you need to have an Android smartphone, then go to the Gemini app and tap the wave icon at the bottom right of the screen. Doing so activates the microphone, and the user can then ask a query by speaking, rather than having to write it.
Google's conversational model then makes sense, since it is possible to have a real discussion with artificial intelligence, by interrupting it if it does not really answer our question for example. The bad news is that for the moment, Gemini's free voice function is only accessible in English: you will therefore have to master the language of Shakespeare in order to benefit from it. However, there is no doubt that a French localization should see the light of day within a few months, as well as accessibility on iOS. Note also that this feature is still not compatible with Gemini Extensions, which allows for example to have parallel access to services like Gmail.
