iPhone 16: Here's why it's better to wait until the iPhone 17
Apple Intelligence is the big new feature of the iPhone 16. Unfortunately, its deployment in French is not not expected before next year.
A situation that gives rise to a more than laudable question: wouldn't it be better to wait a few more months to renew your equipment, and splash out on the iPhone 17?
To answer this question, we just need to take stock of the first rumors of this future generation of iPhone, which will be launched in September 2025.
iPhone 17 and 17 Air/Slim
For the next standard models, Apple would consider several key changes. First of all, the iPhone 17 Plus would be replaced by an exclusive model playing on thinness.
Potentially appointed iPhone 17 Air or 17 Slimthis version would thus follow the strategy of the iPad Pro M4, by offering the thinnest device on the market. The latter would also opt for a new 6.55-inch screen size according to information from IceUniverse.
On the iPhone 17 side, Apple is reportedly considering adopting the new 6.3-inch screen diagonal introduced on the iPhone 16 Pro.
The display of these two models would also be entitled to a highly anticipated new feature: ProMotion technology. Rumors also suggest a refresh rate of 1-120 Hzor the adaptive frequency available from the Pro models since the iPhone 14 range, and bringing the always-on mode.
iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max
The big design news for the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max would be on the Face ID side. The facial recognition technology would indeed be hidden under the screen, thus transforming the Dynamic Island pill into a simple punch. Incidentally, analyst Jeff Pu revealed last May that the Pro Max model would benefit from a more discreet Dynamic Island thanks to the use of smaller “metalenses” for the Face ID system.
On the photo side, the iPhone 17 Pro would bring a new 48 Mpx telephoto sensor, optimized for use with Apple's future Vision Pro headset according to Jeff Pu. We still hope that other advantages will be part of it, otherwise, Apple would not really have a new argument in terms of hardware for photo and video.
Finally, the iPhone 17 Pro would have 12 GB of RAM, compared to 8 GB currently. A significant gain that could allow more advanced Apple Intelligence features to be run. Note that Ming-Chi Kuo explained at the end of August that Only the Pro Max model would be entitled to this evolution on the RAM side. A choice that could be wise in the event that Apple finally considers seriously segmenting its entire range of phones.
For all iPhone 17
Just like the Camera Control button On the iPhone 16, a new feature would concern all iPhone 17 models: the transition from a 12 Mpx to 24 Mpx front camera. The opportunity to gain in quality and detail for your video calls and selfie photos.
Another small change: the anti-reflective screen would be more scratch-resistant than Apple's Ceramic Shield available since the iPhone 16.
