Adobe Firefly: The AI That Will Shake Hollywood
Adobe has introduced new modules based on generative artificial intelligence that will be available in Adobe Firefly. These tools will allow the user to generate videos from text, animate an initially fixed image and lengthen an imported video.
Amazing video generation
Presented last spring, Adobe Firefly is the AI generation tool that is notably integrated into the eponymous editor's applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, etc.). The company recently unveiled a video that gives a taste of what we will be able to do with the upcoming features.
Concretely, if it will now be possible to generate realistic videos from a simple text, Adobe announces that it will go even further by allowing to simulate camera angles and add specific movements. In the same vein, the firm indicates that it will soon be possible to extend a video sequence by a maximum of five seconds in Premiere Pro: enough to obtain perfect connections during editing.
Generative AI: The time for big questions is approaching
Given the stunning nature and realism of the videos generated by this AI, some questions arise in the minds of videographers and content producers. Will so-called “copyright-free” videos still be in demand? Will AI nibble away at a share of this market, which is still dominated today by platforms like Shutterstock or Pond5? In a similar vein, is the profession of 3D animator destined to evolve significantly with increasingly advanced artificial intelligence?
As some generative models like Midjourney already do, it is possible to generate variations of a (still) image by only modifying the clothing of a character created on a text query. Will Adobe Firefly transpose the concept to the video format? The rapid progression of generative AI brings a large number of new questions to many professionals in all sectors. However, generative AI is only in its early stages and exponential growth is expected in the years to come. For the time being, Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) and Pete Docter (Pixar) have nothing to worry about.
