Astro A50 (Gen 5): Logitech updates its benchmark gaming headset
Since 2012, Logitech has established itself as a major player in the premium wireless gaming headset market with the A50. The philosophy has always remained the same: to allow the user to experience gaming sessions with excellent sound quality and without the constraints of cables.
The headset's charging base has long been limited to connecting a single console. But with the new flagship A50 Xmarketed at the beginning of the year, it is now possible to switch between three devices connected simultaneously. Benefiting from the technological developments made to the latter, the A50 (Gen 5) is a real upgrade compared to the A50 (Gen 4) released in 2019.
A50 (Gen 5): an “audio” version of the flagship A50 X
The A50 (Gen 5) inherits the architecture and features of the A50 X, with the exception of the HDMI ports on the base. Focused on audio, it includes only USB-C ports allowing the user to switch audio channels between three different consoles or computers (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, etc.). The operation is done instantly, using the PLAYSYNC button accessible from the left earpiece.
Obviously, the A50 X remains the preferred solution for changing video sources without using your TV remote control.
Sound, flow, microphone… every aspect has been improved compared to the A50 (Gen 4)
Among the attributes borrowed from Logitech's high-end gaming headset, we can count on improved sound quality. The A50 (Gen 5) is equipped with 40 mm transducers designed with graphene. Much more rigid than standard drivers, they should contribute to obtaining a more balanced, more musical and less bass-oriented sound, compared to the A50 (Gen 4).
The headset also benefits from Logitech's Lightspeed wireless transmission. This technology promises reduced audiovisual latency, a more stable connection and a greater range. The ability to pair a Bluetooth device is also a new feature worth highlighting.
This fifth-generation version also comes closer to the A50 X in using a 16-bit/48 kHz microphone offering extended bandwidth. This is a significant development, which promises more intelligible conversations thanks to a significant extension at the ends of the sound spectrum.

The A50 (Gen 5) has also received feature updates. In addition to the G HUB desktop app, there is now a Logitech mobile app that lets you fine-tune the headset and microphone tone when connected to Bluetooth.
The Logitech A50 (Gen 5) gaming headset is available from September 17 in black and white finishes. Priced at €299, €100 more than the A50 (Gen 4), it can be considered a purely “audio” version of the A50 X, launched at €399.
