The streaming war is raging more than ever, and platforms must find new levers to retain their subscribers and gain new ones. In this context, Disney+ service announced that it will be adding new continuous channels before the end of the year, focusing on strong themes, particularly the Star Wars and Marvel franchises.

The return of linear TV

It is at the microphone of our colleagues from the Bloomberg website that Dana Walden, co-president of Disney Entertainment, clarified the development plans of Disney+ after the success of the series Shogun And The Bear to the last Emmy Awards.

During the discussion, Walden confirmed that four new streaming channels will be added to the streaming platform before the end of 2024, at least in the United States.

These will offer, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, programs according to four specific themes: Hits and Heroes (action programs from the Disney, Marvel and Star Wars franchises), Throwbacks (nostalgic pop culture programs), Real Life (documentaries and biopics) and Hallowstream (a seasonal channel). You're not dreaming: Disney makes good old traditional TV.

“All these innovations in the streaming platform will help make it much easier for subscribers to find the most of our content in one place.”explains Dana Walden.

Like the Max platformwhich also offers live channels (CNN, Warner TV, TCM Cinema, etc.), and Netflix which occasionally broadcasts live events, Disney+ is also preparing to diversify its offering, again and again to keep its subscribers on its service for as long as possible.

While the launch of these four new channels should be effective in the United States before the end of 2024, nothing has been announced for France at the moment. But there is no doubt that this return to “daddy” television on streaming offers will happen very soon here.
