Chassis, connectivity, screen of the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16IAH8 (83ES003EFR)
With its thin and light Arctic Grey silver design, this Ultrabook certified to the American military robustness standard MIL-STD-810H adopts an elegant and discreet look.
To exploit its full capabilities it is necessary to install a complete operating system, such as a Linux or Windows distribution.
This laptop integrates good connectivity with its USB-C, its Wi-Fi 6E ax and Bluetooth 5.2 modules for wireless remote connections and communications, its audio port, its practical HDMI video output for easy connection to a TV or monitor for example, but also its 2 USB 3.0 (compatible with USB 2.0) ensuring transfers up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 if you connect USB 3.0 peripherals.
The screen, which is well suited to Full HD content, stands out with its 16/10 format, which is more comfortable in height than the classic 16/9, thus displaying more elements.
Due to its anti-reflective coating, the screen ensures better visibility than a glossy panel in a bright environment (e.g. outdoors).
In addition, the screen benefits from IPS technology providing wide viewing angles, both horizontally and vertically. But the colorimetry here is obviously classic due to the positioning of this laptop, therefore inferior to that provided by high-end IPS panels.
Performance, autonomy of the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16IAH8 (83ES003EFR)
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16IAH8 (83ES003EFR) is a thin and light 15-inch laptop with powerful processor performance.
The Core i5-12450H, an Intel Alder Lake processor with 8 hybrid cores that houses the Iris Xe graphics module, in fact drives this Ultrabook, which also has a good amount of 16 GB of RAM.
This gives good overall performance that will delight many users.
This core deploys its potential under multimedia works exploiting multicores and RAM, such as modest video editing or photo retouching.
In these areas, we obtain faster processing than with a classic Quad Core.
While the Iris Xe does not provide graphics acceleration for processing, this graphics solution allows you to view HD photos and videos as well as play light games.
The storage goes very well with the heart of this laptop since it is entrusted to an SSD which clearly reinforces the fluidity and responsiveness on a daily basis.
So thanks to the SSD, processing is fast, as are startups/shutdowns and application launches.
Because an SSD is fast. And offers other advantages: low energy consumption, silent operation and robust design.
Like many laptops on the market – including (much) more expensive ones – a 512 GB SSD is integrated here.
However, if you need additional space, you can use an external storage module. For fast transfers, you should preferably opt for a USB 3.0/USB-C device.
As for the autonomy of this Ultrabook whose lightness and thinness make it easy to transport, count on about 6 hours of battery life in light use. Some people wish to equip themselves with a student laptop not requiring high autonomy may be interested.
Expect it to get somewhat warm and audible when pushed hard (eg: treatments).
If necessary, it can be associated with a ventilated support (remember to check the dimensions carefully!) to limit its temperatures.
