The Bose Smart Soundbar turns your headphones into surround sound speakers
Bose is on a roll. Alongside the release of new headphones QuietComfort Earbudsthe American firm unveils a new sound bar called Smart Soundbar. Featuring a compact design, it is intended to be a simplified version of the high-end sound bar Smart Soundbar UltraIt also stands out with a more modest acoustic design (5 speakers) making it perfect for providing sound in a small room or fitting discreetly under a television.
Bose launches new Personal Surround Sound technology
Of course, Bose has made sure to equip the Smart Soundbar with the new technologies that contributed to the success of its high-end model launched last year. However, its marketing marks the arrival of Personal Surround Sound, a technology that allows you to use open headphones Ultra Open Earbuds as a rear channel in a home theater setting.

Coupled with Bose Immersive Audio technology, the open design of these headphones allows the user to benefit from surround effects while continuing to perceive every sound detail emitted by the soundbar. A completely new solution, which is currently limited to one user: only one pair of headphones can be used in this way, which limits its use in the family, for example. Personal Surround Sound will obviously be available this fall on the Smart Soundbar Ultra, via an update.
Smart Soundbar: AI Dialogue mode and Dolby Atmos compatibility
Among the functions borrowed from its predecessor, we can count on the famous AI Dialogue mode. Thanks to a machine learning algorithm, the latter adjusts the tone of the soundtracks in real time to leave room for the voices. Enough to enjoy clear dialogues at low volume, without distorting the rest of the sound effects.
The Smart Soundbar is also optimized to reproduce Dolby Atmos three-dimensional effects with two vertical speakers. Bose has also taken care to integrate TrueSpace upmixing technology, which has the role of transforming any stereo or 5.1 content into a realistic three-dimensional experience.

Cutting-edge connectivity for your music
Despite limited connectivity (one HDMI eARC port and one optical input), Bose goes all out on connectivity. In addition to Bluetooth, you can count on Google ChromeCast, Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect compatibility for versatile music streaming. The ability to control the soundbar by voice command (Alexa integrated) and to integrate it into the Bose home multiroom network are also worth noting.
Technologically very complete, the Smart Soundbar has everything the larger ones have on paper. It remains to be seen whether its small size does not compromise its sound immersion capabilities.
