For a few months now, Sony has been insistently reminding us that this year 2024 will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the legendary PlayStation, the Japanese manufacturer's first console. It was indeed on December 3, 1994 that a video game tsunami (the importance of which we perhaps did not yet suspect, by the way) swept over the Archipelago in the form of a gray parallelepiped, rather dull in fact. The result of an aborted marriage between Nintendo and Sony, the PlayStation established itself upon its release as a true pioneer of 3D video games that were then thought to be reserved for arcade brones and democratized these titles in homes. You have to have lived through this era to realize the revolution that was being able to play Ridge Racerhas Tekkenhas SoulBladehas Crash Bandicoot or even to King's Field at home.

To celebrate the 30th birthday of this “old lady”, Sony has just unveiled a whole range of current products (PS5, PS5 Pro, DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers and even the famous Portal) with a design paying homage to the first PlayStation from 1994.

The slightly sad gray is back, as well as the red, green, blue and yellow PlayStation logo that will speak to the most nostalgic. But the homage does not stop there and the controllers take back the colored cross, circle, square and triangle buttons.

Sony has done things well and a host of other details will resonate with PlayStation fans' nostalgia. For example, the manufacturer has provided cord organizers that feature the button symbols. In the same vein, the USB-C ports on the controller cables have been given a new look to make them look like the pins on the 1994 PS Controllers.

For the moment, we don't know the price of these collector's editions, but they will be available drop by drop and will probably be the target of speculators of all kinds. So you'll have to be ready from September 26 to be sure to get your hands on one of these pieces… or all of them!
