Much more focused on laptops, tablets and other connected objects than on its initial specialty – smartphones – Huawei is today renewing its range of the most expensive connected watches. Its GT 5 series, which comes in five variants in total, does not quite play in the same league as the Watch Fit 3made official in the spring and significantly more affordable.
Round screens in angular cases are clearly popular, since we see them this year at both Samsung (Watch Ultra) and Amazfit (T-Rex 3). Huawei is no exception to the trend and is offering a Watch GT 5 Pro with a 1.43-inch Amoled screen (466 x 466 pixels) protected by sapphire glass and included in a titanium case. Huawei is focusing heavily on solidity this year, with its watch being waterproof to 5 ATM, but also IP69K certified, meaning it is not only resistant to immersion in water, but also to hot water.
The watch aims to be ultra-complete. This model under Harmony OS 4.0, compatible with Android and iOS, includes a plethora of sensors designed to assess with ever greater precision the heart rate, the quality of sleep, movements of all kinds and health. The watch can thus measure the temperature, blood oxygenation and perform ECGs. On the sports side, a hundred modes are supported, so fifteen gain more numerous and precise metrics: these include running, swimming, cycling and skiing. It is a shame, however, that the device does not have dual-frequency GPS, although Huawei indicates that it has improved the precision of geolocation. Nevertheless, we appreciate a new addition: that of a keyboard to respond to messages, which was missing from the GT 4.
This Watch GT 5 Pro 46 mm has a 524 mAh battery that, according to Huawei, gives the watch a battery life of two weeks. You will have to pay a little less for the 42 mm version of the watch, whose battery does not exceed 323 mAh, and which announces 7 days of use at best. This slightly more compact version has a 1.32-inch screen (466 x 466 pixels), a round case surrounded by a ceramic crown, and is compatible with standard attachment bracelets, where the 46 mm models are equipped with bracelets with proprietary attachment.
Standard Watch GT 5… or Ultimate
Beyond these Pro versions, the standard GT 5s offer, at a lower cost, more or less the same experience. They have a similar design, in 46 mm or 41 mm versions and with Amoled screens of the same diagonal, the same batteries and autonomy announced, and the same sensors, with the exception of the electrodes for EGC, which remain the prerogative of the watches in the Pro version. We note all the same that their case is not made of titanium, that their screen is not protected by a sapphire glass (but Huawei indicates having improved the resistance of its screens, compared to those of the GT 4). The compromises are all in all contained, and justify a lower launch price: count on a price of €249 for the Watch GT 5 41 and 46 mm, with their basic leather strap. The GT 5 Pro, on the other hand, are billed at least €449 in 42 mm and €379 in 46 mm.
Huawei is not satisfied with these four watches, and goes further with their Ultimate edition. This one is not aimed at small wrists, with its 48 mm format and its 1.5-inch Amoled screen (466 x 466 pixels). Its case combines titanium and ceramic, its water resistance is increased to 10 ATM and its crown is rotating. It is also reserved for the dual-frequency GPS as well as a depth sensor, which opens the doors to diving. Its announced autonomy is 14 days, thanks to a 530 mAh accumulator. For this, you will still have to pay €899, which places it in the range of the Apple Watch Ultra 2and even a little above a Samsung Watch Ultra.
