Apple iPhone SE 4: The Perfect Alternative to the iPhone 16, Here's Why
The launch of the iPhone 16 is quite mixed, with a prevalence for standard models compared to Pro. A situation clearly impacted by the absence of Apple Intelligence, still in beta in English in the United States and planned for 2025 in other languages (including French).
In the meantime, Apple would have a new affordable smartphone in store: the iPhone SE 4. With this version, the apple company would go all out, offering concrete improvements compared to the third generation marketed in 2022. It would also serve as a serious alternative to theiPhone 16.
According to rumors, it would first of all clearly change its design, abandoning the aging format of the iPhone 8. for the iPhone 14. We would thus be entitled to flat slices, a OLED screen 6.1 inches, Face ID and the famous notch.
On the back, the iPhone SE 4 would be less well-off than the last generations of non-Pro iPhones, with still only one photo sensor. However, this main camera would climb in resolution : 48 Mpx instead of 12 Mpx.
Still on the design side, hallway noises are looking at the arrival of the Action button. As a reminder, the latter has just arrived on the new standard models, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
In terms of performance, Mark Gurman estimated in August 2024 that A18 chip could be part of it. As with the iPhone 16/16 Plus, it would be accompanied by 8 GB of RAM, thus allowing the Apple Intelligence functionalities to run.
Finally, on the technical sheet, the iPhone SE 4 should have a USB-C port. The accessories for Mac (mouse, keyboard and trackpad) would thus be the last equipped with Lightning.
Given the multitude of new features being considered, 9to5Mac estimates that the fourth generation would sell for $499, compared to $429 for the current model. This would put it $200 behind the iPhone 15 and $300 behind the iPhone 15 Plus or the iPhone 16.
In short, the iPhone 16 would only have the Camera Control buttonthe Dynamic Island and the 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle sensor to seduce against the iPhone SE 4.
Like previous generations of iPhone SE, the launch of the next generation is expected in early spring.
