Gladiator II will not be subtle

Paul Mescal (Normal People) here embodies an adult version of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (still played by Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus, who admires the career of a certain Maximus. After crossing paths with General Marcus Acacius, played by Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), our hero will have to follow this same path in spite of himself.

Along his journey, and especially in the stands of the arena where he will fight for his survival, other stars like Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger will be there to play respectively an arms dealer and emperor brothers.

Ridley Scott is already thinking about a sequel

In an interview with Première, Ridley Scott clearly hints at his desire to produce a third film. GladiatorThe 86-year-old filmmaker states in particular: “The ending of Gladiator II is reminiscent of The Godfather, with Michael Corleone finding himself with a job he doesn't want and asking his father what he should do. So the next film will be about a man who doesn't want to be where he is.

The critical and box office results will obviously have to be good before a third film is truly official. However, we are not too worried about Ridley Scott and his project, as the first opus and its five Oscars were a success.

Gladiator II arrives in theaters on November 13th.
