In his blogGoogle announces the launch of a major update for Google Maps & Google Earth. First, the latter allows to refine satellite images using artificial intelligence. To do this, Google uses a new artificial intelligence model called Cloud Score Plus, the goal of which is to improve the clarity of satellite images by removing visual obstacles such as clouds or fog. On the other hand, in addition to this advance, Google brings its Street View function to many new countries: it will be possible to enjoy it in Bosnia, Naibi or Paraguay, among others. On the other hand, the function is now more precise and more substantial in many countries already covered, such as Australia, Japan, New Zealand or Rwanda.

After space travel, time travel

Despite the good news discussed above, this is probably not the most impressive of this update. The most interesting feature brought by Google is the ability to travel back in time (up to 80 years) and thus observe changes in relief or architecture over the years. This function should thus offer an overview of the impact of human activity, but also of climate change, allowing us to observe the evolution of forests, cities or various natural elements.

These historical images thus allow you to enjoy a direct view of certain areas dating back 80 years. Large cities like Paris, London or Berlin are among the areas where users can access older images (of course, since there is more data about them). Some photos date back to the 1930s, and it is likely that some even older shots will be added in the future. For now, this function is only accessible on the web and mobile versions of Google Earth. Overall, all these new features brought to Google's two geolocation applications allow ordinary users to better understand the planet, whether in terms of time or space.
