On September 26, 2024, Xiaomi will present its Redmi Note 14, new mid-range smartphones that are kings of value for money. After announcing the presentation date, accompanied by images of the three planned models, the Chinese brand began its usual teasing with marketing images containing some technical specifications.
First details confirmed by Xiaomi
The opportunity to see there that the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ would feature a 6,200mAh battery compatible with 90W fast charging and a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip.
As a bonus, we discover that all three smartphones will benefit from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen protection (used for example on all Galaxy S23s, but also Samsung's S24 and S24+). Xiaomi also mentions IP66+, IP68+ and IP69 waterproofing for the Pro versions.
In terms of design, the next Xiaomi mid-range models will have as expected right to innovative photo modules: square with rounded corners. Each sensor stands out on the Redmi Note 14 Pro and 14, while they are integrated into it for the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.
A leak to end the suspense
However, it didn't take long to get the bottom of the story on the complete technical specifications of the Redmi Note 14. On the Chinese social network Weibo, an informant took great pleasure in sharing all the details of this generation.
Relayed by GSMArenathe latter first tell us that the Pro models would have a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1220p definition, compared to 1080p for the standard version.
For the photo part, the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ would take the lead with a rear module equipped with a 200 Mpx main sensor, a 32 Mpx x2 telephoto lens and a 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle. The Redmi Note 14 Pro would follow it only on the ultra wide angle, and would move to a 50 Mpx wide angle and a 2 Mpx macro; a configuration almost similar to the Redmi Note 14, given that it would differ only in its ultra wide angle, dropping to 8 Mpx.
On the video side, we note that the best-equipped model will support 4K at 60 frames per second, compared to 30 frames per second for the others. The selfie camera, for its part, will be an identical element across the range, with a resolution of 16 Mpx.
Performance-wise, it's quite contradictory, given that we're talking about a MediaTek Dimensity 8200, while Xiaomi has confirmed the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. The leak talks about this chip for the Redmi Note 14 Pro, while the Redmi Note 14 would be entitled to the Dimensity 7050.
These processors would then be supported by up to 12GB of RAM for the standard model and 16GB of RAM for the Pro, as well as storage ranging from 128GB to 512GB.
The battery information is also strange, with a capacity of 5,200 mAh and 120 W fast charging for the Redmi Note 14 Pro +, against the 6,200 mAh and 90 W announced by Xiaomi. The leaker adds that the Redmi Note 14 and 14 Pro will be entitled to a 5,500 mAh battery, one with 33 W wired charging and the other with 67 W.
Finally, the leak reveals an overall IP64 certification for the standard model, compared to IP66 (strong water spray test), IP68 (waterproof test) and IP69 (high pressure and spray test) for the Pro.
So all of this should be taken with a pinch of salt for now. The good news in the story is that Xiaomi will clearly put an end to dotting the i's tomorrow at its Chinese announcement conference.
