Zelda Echoes of Wisdom: If Link is not the hero, it is for this reason
The main mechanic of this episode is based on manipulating echoes to duplicate and insert objects into the environment to solve puzzles or fight enemies.
Link was already equipped with a sword and shield
As Eiji Aonuma, producer of the franchise, explains, it is this feature which notably justified the choice of Zelda as the protagonist.
Specifically, when Link was first envisioned as a hero of Echoes of Wisdom, “The sword and shield have become inconvenient […] There is no need to rely on [les échos]”says Eiji Aonuma.
The choice then fell on Zelda while producer Eiji Aonuma questions: “Who in the series would be best suited to these powers and bring insight? It would have to be Princess Zelda.”
The next challenge was to justify Zelda's presence outside the castle. The team designed a threat of magnitude: rifts that swallow the king, Link, and threaten all of Hyrule. Eiji Aonuma reveals: “I was trying in vain to figure out what would really do him justice. But when I saw the team struggling to choose the best protagonist, I thought: this is exactly the game we need [à Zelda] !”
A woman in the director's chair, a first
At first, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was envisioned as a dungeon editor to allow players to create their own adventures, such as Super Mario Maker 2 on Nintendo Switch.
This game marks a turning point for the world of video games since a woman is at its head: Tomomi Sano. Proof that the industry is evolving, little by little. As a reminder, this new opus is released exclusively on Nintendo Switch (of course), this September 26.
