According to a press release from the Walt Disney CompanyDisney+'s paid sharing program is now expanding to the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. This means that now, like the measures implemented by Netflixonly members of the same household can share a Disney+ account.

To share your account with someone living outside your household (which is defined by “a set of devices associated with your primary residence and used by the people who reside there”), you will have to pay extra.

If you want to add a user outside your household to your Disney+ account, the streaming service now offers an option called “Extra Member”. For an additional cost of $6.99 per month in the United States on the Standard plans, and $9.99 for the Premium subscription, a person not residing under your roof can therefore benefit from your Disney+ account (the prices of this option in euros are not yet known but should be around 6-9 euros).

Note that this option is only available for one additional user per account. So, if you shared your Disney+ account with more than one person outside of your household, they will need to sign up for their own subscription. The good news is that as the account holder, you can at least allow them to keep their usage history and settings by transferring their profiles to this new subscription.

Of course, if you want to use your Disney+ account outside your home, while you're traveling for example, the platform won't stop you. When you log in, if it detects that you're not at home, it will ask you to confirm that this is indeed the case before sending you a temporary code by email allowing you to access your account.

This end to account sharing comes to Disney+ just before the platform prepares to once again increase its prices in the United States. While this increase does not yet affect France, the wallets of American consumers are taking a big hit.
