Xiaomi 14T & 14T Pro: two AI smartphones to stand out against the competition
Xiaomi continues to expand its catalog with the launch of the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro, unveiled at an event in Berlin. These two models offer solid features, and integrate numerous AI functions, at more accessible prices than its flagship models, while making some discreet concessions.
The Xiaomi 14T is distinguished by its flat back, while the 14T Pro takes the curved back of its predecessor. Their sleek design is available in three colors with a metallic effect (titanium black, titanium gray and titanium blue), as well as a green imitation leather version for the classic 14T. In addition, both are IP68 certified, ensuring their resistance to water and dust. They also have a 6.67-inch Amoled FHD+ panel with a variable refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, and an announced maximum brightness of 4000 cd/m² in HDR, which we will not fail to check in the lab. The screen is further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The Xiaomi 14T is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chip, coupled with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (compared to 8 GB of RAM on the model released in 2023), while the 14T Pro is equipped with a another MediaTek SoC, the Dimensity 9300+, promising a better experience gamingwith 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage, like its predecessor. This configuration offers the Pro version WiFi 7 compatibility, while the standard 14T is satisfied with the WiFi 6e standard. However, these smartphones both support 5G, Bluetooth 5.4, eSIM technology and NFC.
In terms of similarities, the two models share the same battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, but the charging speed sets them apart. While the Xiaomi 14T offers fast charging at 67W, claiming a full charge in less than 45 mins, the 14T Pro supports 120W fast charging, promising to reach 100% in 20 mins, and adds wireless charging. wire at 50 W to refuel after about 45 min.
Focus on the photo
One of the great strengths of this new series lies once again in its photo component, in collaboration with Leica. Xiaomi has equipped its 14T and 14T Pro with a triple versatile module:
- A 50-megapixel main sensor, equipped with a Summilux lens and optical stabilization.
- A 12 Mpx ultra wide angle.
- A 50 Mpx telephoto lens, with x2 optical zoom for the 14T and x2.6 for the 14T Pro.
This trio is enriched with Leica's know-how and Google's advanced features, including the famous magic eraser, and automatic cropping via artificial intelligence. On the front, the smartphones accommodate a 32 Mpx selfie camera, housed in a punch centered at the top of the screen. On the video side, the Xiaomi 14T Pro can film up to 8K at 30 fps, while the 14T is limited to 4K at 30 fps.
AI and an exclusion
For the software part, if both devices run Android 14 out of the box, the manufacturer announces that they will be the first to benefit from the transition to HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi's in-house interface. Although the Chinese company declares that it is skipping the charging block to align with regulations coming into force in 2025 (which involves purchasing the charger separately), it is stagnating in terms of software monitoring, with 4 years of Android updates and 5 of security patches, while the EU will impose from June 2025 at least 5 years of software monitoring after a device is placed on the market.
Finally, Xiaomi intends to strike a major blow in terms of user experience, highlighting its suite of AI-boosted functions. Thanks to a partnership with Google, the 14T and 14T Pro will benefit from many services, such as the integration of Gemini and Circle To Search, thus competing with Samsung and Galaxy AI. The Chinese giant is also developing its own tools, such as intelligent note-taking or instant translation.
Xiaomi has announced an introductory price of €649 for the 14T, and from €799 for its Pro version. The brand did not stop there, presenting its Mix Flipalso available in our regions for €1299 (12/512 GB), and which we were able to use very recently.
