Galaxy S24 FE: its lifespan breaks a record with several years of updates
Good news for future owners of the smartphone: Samsung will deploy updates for seven years, security patches included. Which extends its life expectancy until 2031.
Seven years of updates for the Galaxy S24 FE
Theoretically, the Galaxy S24 FE will end its life with Android 21 provided that Google keeps its current nomenclature. The smartphone comes with Android 14 and the manufacturer overlay One UI 6.1.
This seven-year update policy places Samsung at the head of the pack of smartphone manufacturers with Google, which offers a similar lifespan for its latest Pixels. This is a significant development compared to the previous four years of updates from the Korean firm.
Apple has confirmed a minimum of five years of security updates for the range iPhone 15. In fact, the Californian firm goes further: up to six years or more of support for certain models.
The competition is lagging behind
OnePlus and Xiaomi generally offer four years of updates, while Motorola and Sony are still limited to two years in the best case. However, the trend towards longer support periods could become more widespread under competitive pressure.
In addition to the features, the Galaxy S24 FE will therefore be protected against online threats with security patches that will protect against flaws and various threats that target Android devices.
This is good news between environmental sustainability, safety and customer satisfaction who will be able to enjoy the Galaxy S24 FE for longer. The choice of a smartphone is therefore a long-term investment.
