The Last of Us (Max): the first intense trailer for season 2 is available

Every September 26 for 11 years, fans of The Last of Us commemorate the fictional anniversary of the Cordyceps epidemic, a key event in the universe of these video games developed by Naughty Dog. And while season 2 of the series adaptation of this successful franchise is still awaited, HBO has decided to mark the occasion by revealing an official teaser for this new season as well as illustrations.

A jump in time

There season 2 of The Last of Us will be broadcast on HBO and available for streaming on Max in 2025, and it won't quite pick up where we left Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) at the end of season 1.

Indeed, these new episodes take place five years after the events of the first season, a jump in time identical to that operated in the game The Last of Us Part II from which the series is inspired. We will then find Joel and Ellie while they are, according to the official synopsis, “caught up with their past.” This then pushes them into a difficult confrontation with each other and they “will face a world even more perilous and unpredictable than the one they thought they left behind.”

If this season 2 will therefore feature familiar faces, like Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Maria (Rutina Wesley) in addition to Joel and Ellie, it will also introduce several new characters keys including Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), Dina (Isabela Merced), Jesse (Young Mazino), or even Isaac (Jeffrey Wright).

As evidenced in the explosive trailer below, Catherine O'Hara (BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice) is also there. His role is still kept secret even if these images seem to indicate that his character plays therapist for Joel…

The series The Last of Us continues to be co-written and produced by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (the originator of video games). This season two will be shorter than the previous onewith only seven episodes on the clock, and will arrive on our screens during the first half of next year.

So you will still have to be patient!
