LG adds advertising to its TVs, here's how to stop it
After Amazon on Fire OS, Gogole with Android TV or even Samsung with Tizen, TVs are once again entitled to advertising. LG is indeed starting to display sponsored content on its operating system: webOS. A novelty which is not surprising when we know that the brand had announced the arrival of this advertising device on screen savers at the beginning of September 2024.
The LG Ad Solutions division defined the screen saving mode as “a valuable engagement opportunity” during a period when “viewer attention is limited”. She added in passing that displaying advertisements when the screen was in standby led to a 2.5 times greater increase in awareness of the promoted brand.
In detail, these advertisements are displayed on the home page, the Content Store and LG channels when screen saving mode is activated. FlatPanelsHD also discovered that this advertising content had already taken place on the LG G4. The latter concern LG Channels, an ASVOD service, the manufacturer's video streaming platform financed by advertising, but also products from third-party advertisers.
The good news in the story is that viewers can stop seeing ads on the screen saver. To do this, simply access the settings of your LG TV, open the menu Additional settings* and disable the option Screen saver promotion.
