Free cycling training modules – Cycling school – Residents of Greater Lyon (69)
Whether you are a beginner, a leisure cycle enthusiast, or not very confident in traffic, being comfortable cycling in the city can be learned!
To learn or relearn how to ride a bike, familiarize yourself with its use and better understand sharing the street, the bike school of the Métropole de Lyon offers free theoretical and practical training for all 1.4 million inhabitants of the 58 municipalities of the Metropolis.

Learn to ride a bike
Theory – learn to ride a bike out of traffic
1h30 session – carried out by video or in person depending on the dates
This module allows you to transmit fundamental theoretical knowledge for autonomous and safe use of the bicycle outside of traffic. The skills transmitted during this training allow you to know the main components of the bicycle and the corresponding vocabulary, the operating points of the bicycle for safe use, the equipment of the cyclist and the bicycle and the basic rules of the street code.
Practical – out of traffic – beginner
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of this module is to acquire basic mastery of cycling (balance, pedaling, trajectory, braking, etc.) outside of traffic. It is aimed at people who are new to cycling. The skills acquired during this training allow you to know how to correctly use the bicycle and cyclist equipment, adjust your position, check the safety points of the bicycle, handle the bicycle and find your balance, stop safely and master the starting and driving.
Practical – off-road – intermediate
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of this module is to acquire practical mastery of autonomous and safe bicycle driving outside traffic. It is aimed at beginners who have already followed the “starting on a bike” sub-module and who have therefore mastered balance on a bike, or at people who have not ridden a bike for a long time. The skills acquired during this training allow you to know how to take information from around you while maintaining your trajectory and balance, to indicate your changes of direction, to adapt your gear ratios and your driving to the type and condition. terrain and riding in groups.

Do you know how to ride a bike, but are hesitant to take to the city? This module is made for you. It will allow you to understand the different types of layout, adapt your cycling behavior according to your environment, review good practices… and gain confidence to cycle more peacefully!
Family size
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of the module is to address advice, tips and good practices for knowing how to position yourself correctly on the road in relation to your child(ren) in a practical way, in traffic. The training allows parents and children to rework the fundamentals of handling, to know the right reflexes when driving in order to ride independently as a family.
Elderly format
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of this module is to improve autonomous and safe bicycle driving in traffic. It is aimed at elderly people who already know how to ride a bike and who need support to get out into traffic.
Format for people with disabilities
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of this module is to perfect the practical mastery of autonomous and safe bicycle driving in traffic. It is aimed at people with disabilities who already know how to ride a bike and who need support to get out into traffic. People with mental or motor disabilities can benefit from this training module, after an individual interview to confirm the ability of the Lyon Metropolis cycle school to adapt the module to the type of disability.
Special bike format (VAE / cargo) for all audiences (including professionals)
Two 2-hour sessions
The objective of the module is to acquire the knowledge necessary to travel with an electrically assisted bicycle or a cargo bike (assisted or not). The skills acquired are the management of the electrical assistance system in combination with the gear ratios and when starting, the management of speed, size and load and parking and securing the bicycle.

One 3-hour session or 2 1.5-hour sessions
Become a patch expert and leave with the fundamental knowledge of bicycle mechanics, including the diagnostics necessary for riding safely, basic maintenance and adjustments to be made on your bike.
