Renault 4 E-Tech: the electric 4L begins its leaf stripping
While the Renault 5 E-Tech electric is just arriving in dealerships, Renault will already be reviving another of its icons. Thus, the Renault 4 will make its return in the form of an electric car based on the same platform as the new R5. This Renault 4 E-Tech electric will be unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show on October 14, but Renault is already revealing some images of it.
An electric Renault 4 stockier than the R5
Of course, Renault does not only intend to increase the number of tributes, but also to find a coherent place for them in its range. While the R5 maintains a line close to the original model, the new Renault 4 should therefore give in to the fashion for SUVs, or at least that of raised city cars. It will be a little longer, at 4.14 m compared to 3.92 m for the R5, but above all higher. Let's hope that this benefits the habitability and trunk volume, which we found too tight on the R5.
The first official images notably reveal plastic fender protections, as well as three parallel lines sculpted on the sides of the car, reminiscent of the side protections of the latest 4L.
For the first time at Renault, the grille and the brand logo will be illuminated. The model name, on the rear, has also received a “4” badge with more treatment than usual.
Renault seems to have had a heavy hand on nods to the past with different easter eggssuch as a drawing of the old and new 4L on the rear window, or a sticker on the front fenders referring to its production in France, in Maubeuge.
As an option, or depending on the version, the electric Renault 4 will allow you to opt for a canvas sunroof, as was already offered on the original model.
If Renault does not publish any images of the interior of its modern-day 4L, we already know that it should be close to that of the R5, to the point where the brand had already gotten confused in a previous communication.
Like the R5, the Renault 4 E-Tech will be based on the AmpR Small platform. It could be equipped with the same batteries at its beginnings, namely a pack of 40 or 52 useful kWh. Its prices should necessarily be higher than those of the R5 E-Tech, perhaps from around €30,000, excluding ecological bonus, or €5,000 more than the floor price of the R5.
Renault has also renewed a formula launched on its R5. Thus, the manufacturer offers a R4 R Passsold for €150, which will allow its owners to order their electric Renault 4 two weeks before orders open to the general public and to be delivered as a priority. Other little touches are also planned, including sending a miniature to your home and invitations to exclusive events, says Renault. The marketing of the Renault 4 E-Tech electric is announced for 2025, without further details on the timetable.
