Scream 7: the new part of the horror saga finally has a release date
Ghostface, the killer of Screamwill be back… in almost two years! The seventh opus of the cult slasher saga which began in 1996 will finally arrive in theaters on February 25, 2026, almost 30 years after the first confrontation between Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and the masked killer.
A disrupted production
It was Neve Campbell and director Kevin Williamson (screenwriter of the original film) who announced the news on Instagram. Scream 7 will therefore once again feature the character of Sidney Prescott, who appeared in all the films in the saga except Scream VIfrom which she was absent due to differences with the production regarding her salary.
She will, however, return to face Ghostface again in the 2026 film, but will not cross paths with the characters played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega in Scream (2022) And Scream VI. The first was in fact fired by the production following her comments on social networks about the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the second had to give up participating in the film due to lack of space in her already busy schedule by filming of the new season of the series Wednesday For Netflix.
However, it is expected that other “alumni” of the franchise Scream or alongside Campbell in Williamson's film. According to VarietyCourteney Cox (Friends) is still in negotiations to reprise the role of journalist Gale Weathers, to whom she lent her features in all the films in the saga.
The filming of Scream 7 is scheduled to begin in December, after being pushed back a few months to accommodate Campbell and Williamson's schedules. The latter is a prolific screenwriter who, in addition to having created the franchise Screamis behind many cult films and series like Remember last summer, Dawson's Creek or even Vampire Diaries.
Scream 7 is, however, only his second film as a director. He took over from Chris Landon when the latter left the project calling it “dream job turned nightmare.”
We will therefore have to be patient before seeing this Scream 7which is written by Guy Busick (Scream (2022) And Scream VI). But in the meantime, most of the other opuses in the franchise can be seen or rewatched in streaming on Paramount+, the offer of which is available to subscribers Canal+.
