BYD announces the Seal 06 GT, a sporty and inexpensive electric vehicle
While BYD is breaking sales records, the Seal 06 GT arrives in a few days after a presentation at the Chengdu autonomy show on August 30. This sporty electric vehicle is aimed at a young audience. It is the manufacturer's first Grand Tourer model and the industry's first rear-wheel drive electric compact sedan. According to CnEVPostBYD is seeking to offer an electric equivalent to Volkswagen's Golf GTI.
A sporty vehicle aimed at young customers
Based on BYD's latest e-Platform 3.0 Evo electric platform, the Seal 06 GT offers a length of 4.63 meters, a width of 1.88 meters, a height of 1.49 meters and with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. The vehicle will be available in single-engine and twin-engine versions with a 110 kW front engine and a 200 kW rear engine for this second version.
One of the technological highlights of the Seal 06 GT is its 800 V high voltage platform which uses silicon carbide. This allows the vehicle to benefit from a rapid recharge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. The prices announced are between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan (approximately 19,800 to 26,400 euros), i.e. a very aggressive price list.
THE recent sales figures demonstrate BYD’s growing success in the electric vehicle market. In September, the Ocean range recorded 194,099 sales, an increase of 38.8% year-on-year and 10.98% compared to August. Over the first nine months of the year, cumulative sales of the Ocean series reached 1,263,442 units. An increase of 56.24% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Dynasty is not to be outdone with 204,605 vehicles sold in September, growth of 52.91% year-on-year and 14.92% compared to August. From January to September, sales of the range totaled 1,337,472 units, up 14.45% year-on-year.
