iPhone SE 4: the equivalent of an iPhone 15 in photos, but with the power of an iPhone 16 (and a little something extra)
The iPhone SE 4 hasn't stopped making headlines. The rumors are flying, and allow to be made a concrete idea of the changes made compared to the third generation. 9to5Mac also gave it another layer this Thursday, October 3, by confirming information through sources who were correct regarding precise details on the iPhone 16.
To begin with, the American media has had validation of the rumors in the corridors about the design of the iPhone SE 4. We would therefore be well faced with an iPhone 14 chassiswith the added bonus of an OLED panel benefiting from the same definition (1,170 by 2,532 pixels).
Touch ID would disappear in passing, giving way to the Apple firm's very famous facial recognition technology: Face ID. The notch would be retained, thus leaving the exclusivity of the Dynamic Island to the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.
The new information of the day happens in the photo section. 9to5Mac indeed confirms the use of the 48 Mpx main sensor with x2 optical zoom and the 12 Mpx selfie camera of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. The iPhone SE 4 would unfortunately not be entitled to the 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle.
On the performance side, the functions Apple Intelligence would be available, thanks to the introduction of the A18 chip in the iPhone 16/16 Plus as well as 8 GB of RAM.
Connectivity would however be different on the iPhone SE 4, with the appearance of first 5G modem designed by Apple. Under development since the acquisition of Intel's modem division in 2019, the latter aims to remove dependence on Qualcomm for this component.
This would allow the company to move to Apple to improve the integration between hardware and software. 9to5Mac also emphasizes having learned that “the new modem will significantly reduce battery consumption, especially when users enable 'low power' mode on the iPhone”.
Regarding the launch date, spring 2025 is still being considered. This information is not surprising, given that the previous iPhone SEs were unveiled between the beginning of March and mid-April. The price would be between $459 and $499, an increase of $30 to $70 compared to the price of the iPhone SE 3 released in 2022.
