Bring some of the magic of RED color into your Nikon video production

One of the most notable announcements in the photo market in 2024 was probably Nikon's acquisition of the American company RED, which offers professional cameras for many productions, from cinema to advertising to music videos. This acquisition is part of Nikon's strategy aimed at positioning itself as a key player in professional video, today dominated by other manufacturers such as Sony, Canon and Panasonic.

RED rendering with a Nikon body

With this new LUT packthe Japanese manufacturer lays the first stone of its collaboration with RED. The objective is to allow “nikonist” videographers to have the color rendering of RED cameras in order to mix the cameras while maintaining identical color rendering.

It can be used in post-production on editing software like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve. The LUT can also be used during filming on the camera and/or an external monitor to get a preview of the final rendering of the image.

A LUT is relevant when making videos with an N-Log profile. It converts colors from Nikon's N-Log space to another space. In the pack, we find what we call a technical LUT with a conversion to Rec.709, a standardized color space widely used in the professional video industry and perfectly suited for the web.

In the pack, we also find what we call artistic LUTs, four in number, which allow you to apply a particular rendering to video sequences, a bit like filters or image styles in photos. We find FILM BIAS, FILM BLEACH BYPASS and FILM OFFSET for a film-like rendering, as well as a monochrome ACHROMATIC LUT.
