Apple has been known for the autonomy of its iPhones for many years. However, the situation has clearly changed over the last few generations, with increasingly serious challengers. The Galaxy S24 Ultra notably arrives at the same level as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the Honor Magic 6 Pro or even the OnePlus 12 do better.

Good news, the Apple firm has pulled itself together with the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Indeed, PhoneBuff has carried out a conclusive battery of tests on Apple's new premium model. Samsung's most autonomous high-end model, aka the Galaxy S24 Ultrawas also entitled to the same testing process.

Using a robotic arm, the content creator opens the same apps and games and performs identical actions. Waking hours were also included, to best reflect the daily use of a smartphone by an average person.

Result, theiPhone 16 Pro Max ran for a period of 28 hours and 14 minutes, with a total of 12 hours of screen on and 16 hours of standby time. For its part, the Galaxy S24 Ultra lasted about an hour less, achieving an endurance of 27 hours and 18 minutes on a charge.

A fairly significant difference when we know that only two minutes separated the Galaxy S24 Ultra from the iPhone 15 Pro Max via the battery test carried out by PhoneBuff in April 2024 (and therefore, before the autonomy boost of iOS 18).

It remains to be seen what Samsung is concocting with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While initial information estimates that nothing will change on the hardware side (battery + fast charging technology), we can hope that the software part gains optimization to reduce the gap with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
