Promised at less than €25,000 excluding bonus at entry level, the Renault 5 E-Tech will not really be the model that will make the electric car accessible. We had already discovered its quite high prices with its 52 kWh battery (comfort autonomy), which will equip the first models.

Now, Renault is unveiling those of the 40 kWh battery (urban autonomy), spread over three finishing levels. This smaller battery will be launched at the end of the year and will reduce the entry ticket for the R5 to €27,990 excluding bonuses. The latter is currently €4,000, but its amount should decrease in 2025.

Prices excluding bonuses for the Renault 5 E-Tech electric:

At the same level of finish, this small battery marks a reduction of €3,500 compared to the 52 kWh pack. Its range reaches 312 km, compared to 410 km for the largest battery. Furthermore, the 40 kWh pack is associated with a less powerful engine, which develops 90 kW (120 hp) and 225 Nm of torque, compared to 110 kW (150 hp) and 245 Nm for the comfort range versions. However, the R5 with urban autonomy should also be lighter, because it is equipped with the same NMC lithium-ion chemistry battery technology.

Fast charging is only possible up to 80 kW with the 90 kW motor, compared to 100 kW with the 110 kW motor. The battery being smaller, the charging times however remain the same with 15 to 80% announced in 30 min.

But where is the version for less than €25,000?

You will undoubtedly notice the absence of the famous version for less than €25,000. The latter, called five, will be launched in spring 2025, at the same time as the autonomy comfort evolution version. The cheapest model will be sold well under the €25,000 bonus deducted, but the significant price difference with the other versions is due to certain significant sacrifices. Thus, in addition to lighter equipment, this version will make do with a 70 kW (95 hp) engine and 215 Nm of torque. It will also skip fast direct current charging and the bidirectional function of the on-board charger for alternating current charges.
