The Asus VivoBook 14 S1405VA-LY393W faces the competition
The Asus VivoBook 14 S1405VA-LY393W is currently available at Amazon and positions itself as one of the only ones in its category to offer such a large capacity SSD with a 16/10th screen, a numeric keypad module as well as a low-end processor as recent and efficient but encounters cheaper competitors.

Chassis, connections, screen of the Asus VivoBook 14 S1405VA-LY393W
Certified to the American military robustness standard MIL-STD-810H, this versatile laptop has a resolutely sober look thanks to its thin and light compact black design.
This Ultrabook integrates good wired connectivity including 1 USB-C, a practical HDMI video output to easily connect it to a monitor or TV for example, an audio port or even 3 USB including 2 USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 compatible) guaranteeing transfers up to 5 times faster than USB 2.0 when connecting USB 3.0 devices.
On the other hand, the wireless connectivity is disappointing because it is below average and old. We find Wi-Fi 5 ac and Bluetooth 4.1 modules instead of the more recent and efficient Wi-Fi 6 ax and Bluetooth 5 that we expect in this type of configuration.
Fortunately, the chiclet keyboard can be backlit when you need to better distinguish your keys.
As NumPad technology is present, you can activate it to transform the touchpad into a tactile numeric keypad when you need to easily enter numbers.
Remember in this regard that models whose format is less than 15 inches lack the space necessary to accommodate a physical numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard. NumberPad is therefore very practical.
The screen adopts a 16/10th format which is more comfortable in height than the classic 16/9th, which allows a greater amount of information to be displayed.
If its viewing angles, both horizontal and vertical, are important thanks to its IPS technology, as we are not dealing with high-end IPS here, the colorimetry of this Full HD screen is average.
In any case, the screen has an anti-reflective treatment ensuring better visibility than a shiny panel in a bright environment (eg outdoors).
Performance, battery life of the Asus VivoBook 14 S1405VA-LY393W
The Asus VivoBook 14 S1405VA-LY393W is a discreet compact laptop with large storage capacity and intended for everyday general-purpose use.
It benefits from a 1 TB SSD, large capacity for peacefully installing and storing many software and files.
If the SSD competes in terms of capacity with hard drives, it offers undeniable advantages such as greater robustness, lower energy consumption, silent operation but also greater speed.
The responsiveness and fluidity provided by the SSD are much better in use than with a hard drive.
So starting/stopping, launching software, carrying out processing or even accessing online game cards is faster with an SSD than with a hard drive.
While demanding gamers are clearly not the target of this laptop, it will be suitable for those who are content to play light games or watch photos and HD videos.
The graphics are in fact entrusted to the care of the Iris Xe graphics solution inserted in the processor. In this case it is a low-consumption Core i7-1355U Raptor Lake Refresh with 10 hybrid cores, currently supported by 16 GB of RAM to provide very good performance in everyday use.
Performing light multimedia processing using multi-cores and RAM is also possible with this laptop suitable for small video encoding or photo editing.
As for autonomy, count on around 6 hours on battery in light use for this Ultrabook whose lightness, finesse and compactness may interest some wishing to equip themselves with a Student laptop not needing a lot of autonomy.
