Lilo & Stitch: we know the release date of Disney's live-action remake
Fans of Lilo & Stitchmark your calendars! The famous Disney cartoon from 2002 featuring a little blue extra-terrestrial befriending a young Hawaiian girl is the subject of a live-action adaptation which will be released in theaters next May. So get ready to rediscover the meaning of the word “family.”
Aloha, Lilo and Stitch
According to its official synopsis, this adaptation of Lilo & Stitch follows “the touching and funny story of a lonely little Hawaiian girl and a fugitive alien who helps her reconnect with her family.”
During the convention D23 which took place last summer, a first look of Stitch in CGI was revealed and he is just as adorable as in the animated feature film by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders.
The live-action version, which will therefore be released on Friday May 23, 2025 in the United States (and we assume Wednesday May 21, 2025 in France) is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell (with his shoes)) and it is the young Maia Kealoha who slips into the guise of Lilo. Stitch is voiced by Sanders, who already lent his voice to him in the original cartoon, which is also available for streaming on the platform Disney+).
The rest of Lilo's entourage and her destructive alien are played by Sydney Agudong (Nani), Billy Magnussen (Pleakley), Courtney B. Vance (Cobra Bubbles) and Zach Galifianakis (Jumba).
The return of another 2000s family film
In addition to having revealed the release date of Lilo & StitchDisney also announced that of the sequel to the cult film Freaky Friday released in 2003, starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. The two women should therefore once again exchange bodies on August 8, 2025 in American cinemas (and therefore potentially on August 6, 2025 in France).
Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), Freakier Friday takes place “years after the identity crisis suffered by Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan). Anna is in turn the mother of a daughter and will soon have a stepdaughter. Faced with the challenges posed by a blended family, the two women will discover that in their case, lightning can strike twice in the same place.
The cast of this sequel is completed by Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rosalind Chao, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters.
The summer of 2025 will therefore be marked by sequels and remakes for Disney, as the studio is now accustomed to.
