Apple iPad mini 7: the new features that have gone unnoticed
On October 15, 2024, Apple took the time in a press release to unveil its iPad mini 7. This discreet announcement thus lifted the veil of a new small screen tablet, still 8.3 inches, much more powerful. We find there in fact theA17 Pro of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, which means compatibility with Apple Intelligence.
However, it is not only that which evolves in relation to theiPad mini 6. Two incremental changes are first of all included: the move to USB 3.1 Gen 2, offering transfer speeds of up to 10 Gb/s (compared to 5 Gb/s previously); and the arrival of wifi 6E, adding the 6 GHz frequency band, faster and more stable compared to standard wifi 6.
Still on the connectivity side, Bluetooth 5.0 has been replaced by Bluetooth 5.3. This results in the various advantages linked to this version: increased range, higher throughput, reduced interference and even better energy consumption.
To finish on this part, the eSIM is now the only way to have a cellular connection on Apple's miniature tablet, which means the abandonment of the physical non-SIM port.
On the photography side, HDR moves up a gear with the addition of support for Smart HDR 4 technology. The latter allows, thanks to the A17 Pro chip, to obtain photos “even more detailed and more vibrant” according to Apple.
We then appreciate the fact that Apple has finally abandoned the 64 GB storage capacity, thus offering 128 GB for the basic version. The entry price unfortunately drops to €609 for the 128 GB iPad mini 7 instead of €559 for the 64 GB iPad mini 6 in their wifi version.
In terms of styluses, the new iPad mini has compatibility with theApple Pencil Propreviously reserved for iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4. However, the Apple Pencil 2 is no longer supported.
Finally, it is possible to highlight the addition of an “iPad mini” engraving instead of the traditional “iPad” on the back of this new tablet. A practice already current at Apple since the iPad Pro M2 and iPad Air M1.
Pre-orders for the iPad mini 7 are already open, and deliveries will begin from October 23, 2024.
