Today, the conversion bonus allows you to benefit (depending on the consumer's income) from financial assistance of up to 5,000 euros in order to facilitate the purchase of an electric vehicle. And in the case of a transition from a polluting model (beyond crit'air 3) to a used crit'air 1 model, the premium could reach 3000 euros (1000 euros if the consumer already lives in an area low emission). However, all these considerations could soon be history, according to a report Echoes.

A budget cut of a third on the greening of the vehicle fleet

According to the publication, “several consistent sources confirm the non-renewal of the conversion bonus even if arbitrations are still underway“. Thus, as part of the new budget of the Barnier government, the envelope dedicated to ecology and the automobile fleet was reduced by a third, going from 1.5 billion to 1 billion euros. Obviously, Savings will have to be made somewhere, and the conversion premium could thus be directly threatened by these adjustments.

If the conversion bonus were to be abandoned, there would only be two types of aid remaining to support the greening of the French automobile fleet: the bonus for the purchase of an electric vehicle and social leasing. Concerning the purchase bonusit will also be affected by a drop (a change from 4000 euros to 3000 euros is planned). As for social leasing, it costs the State enormously and reaches unexpected figures (50,000 files compared to the 25,000 expected in February – 650 million euros from the State's pockets). We already know that social leasing will be renewed in 2025, but not yet to what extent. In short, getting an electric car may now be a little more expensive for consumers.
