Google in turn goes nuclear to power its services
After the Microsoft and OpenAI duo And Oracle for Nvidiait's Google's turn to look at nuclear energy to power its AI. But, unlike Oracle, which obtained the permit to directly build small modular reactors (SMR), Google will buy energy from a third party.
Ever more gourmet services
By 2030, Google will purchase nuclear energy supplied by the American start-up Kairos Power, also from PRM. None of these small power plants have yet been built in the region, but their construction being rapid and relatively economical compared to a conventional reactor, this cannot take too long. Kairos Power also began construction last July of the first in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The quantity of electricity recovered in this way by Google should then increase until 2035. Enough to help cover the growing needs of its services, starting with its artificial intelligence with ever-increasing capabilities.
Nuclear to the aid of tech
In addition to AI, particularly generative AI, the resources needed to power ever more tools, servers and data storage in the cloud are not likely to decline in the years to come. The main tech companies must therefore find solutions, and nuclear power seems to be one of them. Microsoft even signed a partnership with Constellation Energy to reopen a reactor in the tragic area of Three Mile Island.
