Tesla Model Y: the 7-seater version of the electric SUV finally arrives in Europe
The Tesla Model Y is an undeniable commercial success, it was even the first electric car to win the title of best-selling model in the world, all energies combined, last year. Global success partly driven by Europe, which bought a phenomenal quantity.
But the years go by and are not the same, and 2024 is more complicated for the Palo Alto manufacturer, sales having fallen considerably. Also, while waiting for a real update of the model, like the one to which the Model 3 was recently entitled, the Y is trying for seven places in Europe.
An injustice repaired
There Model Y has always had the right to this three-row variation, it is only the Old Continent which was deprived of it, officially for approval reasons. Perhaps the manufacturer hoped to push customers wanting 7 seats towards the more expensive Model X, we will never know and it is now ancient history.
Tesla is taking advantage of the 2024 Paris Motor Show to finally offer this variant here and thus offer an alternative to Peugeot e-5008 and others Mercedes EQB. Indeed, with its 4.75 meters long and despite its slender shape, the American SUV is only four centimeters smaller than the large French SUV and is seven centimeters longer than the German one.
The price of versatility
To provide access to the third row, the outer corners of the seats in row two are equipped with buttons that allow them to tilt and slide. However, the space thus freed should be reserved for young children as it is limited, whether for legs or for headroom.
This could still be useful for large families with young children, especially as parents can get rid of them by planting them in front of screens plugged into the two added USB-C sockets.
The positive point is the loading volume of the trunk which only loses 101 liters to still offer a very generous 753 liters to the ceiling, when row three is folded down. By deploying all the seats, there are still 363 liters available, to which is added the frunk (front trunk) of 117 liters.
In terms of price, you have to count on a financial effort of €2,500 for the seven-seater option, with a small constraint however: the configuration is only available on the High Autonomy Integral Transmission version, already billed at €51,990. It is therefore a check for at least €54,490 that will have to be signed.
Although the Tesla Model Y is manufactured in Berlin, it will be impossible to benefit from this option and the ecological bonus. But depending on the success of the offer, we imagine that Tesla could offer it on more accessible models in the months to come.
