God of War (2018)

God of War made a thunderous return in 2018 on PS4, subsequently embellished with its episode Ragnarök released in 2022. Proud of its success, Sony wanted pass your license into the world of series with the help of Amazon. Due to arrive on Prime Video, the project is unfortunately not progressing as planned.

A change of “creative direction”

Our colleagues from Deadline indeed reported on October 17, 2024 that showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, as well as executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, had left the ship.

“The studios are apparently looking to change creative direction, although a source told Deadline that the trio's scripts have been praised by both Sony and Prime”explains the American media.

We learn that Sony and Amazon are looking to hire a new team of writers for the series God of War. The entire creation process would thus start from scratch, which will require us to wait several more years in order to taste it on Prime Video.

While it's difficult to give a release date at such an early stage of development, the God of War series might not arrive until 2028, or later.

Screen Rant

As a reminder, Sony wishes to stage the adventures of Kratos within Norse mythology, covered in the last two video games in the saga. It would also be planned to re-adapt on the big screen the first opusmarketed in 2018.

In the latter, the hero had left Olympus for Midgard, finding his deceased wife along the way. Her main mission was to reach the highest mountain in the kingdom alongside her son Atreus to spread her mother's ashes, as she had wished in her last wishes.
