Google is testing adding an expected feature to Google Wallet
In September, Google announced the launch ofa beta function in Wallet allowing you to create a digital identity document using a passport, in order to use it in certain American airports. Until now, Googlet Wallet mainly allowed you to keep various important papers close, such as bank cards, train or plane tickets or loyalty cards. In France, official documents are permitted, but are not considered valid by the authorities. They could become so: in the USA, it is already possible to integrate your digital identity card or driving license, and use it normally. And recently, the passport joined the list of documents that can be integrated into Google Wallet.
Passport integration with Google Wallet is possible today
Since Thursday, October 17, Google has started testing the functionality with American passports. To take advantage of the function, you must be registered with the Google Play Services Beta program, which notably involves having a version higher than Android 9. Note also that it only works for the moment for American domestic flights: it It is therefore not possible for them to take an international flight with this method at the moment.
To enter the passport in Google Wallet, simply click on “Add to wallet”, then select the “US Passport (Beta)” function. The integration of the Passport with Wallet, however, requires special care: it will be necessary to place your passport on a flat surface, then scan the document by removing the shell of your smartphone to avoid interference. You will then have to try to find the chip on the back of the passport to allow it to be scanned. Once this step is completed, you will need to send a quick video of the user's face to confirm their identity. For the moment, nothing indicates when such a functionality will be available from us, but for the time being, it will be necessary to prioritize France Identity.
