Apple: the transition to USB-C is not over in 2024 with these accessories for Mac
In September 2024, Apple signed further progress in abandoning the Lightning port. Indeed, the non-Pro headphones from the Apple firm have finally switched to USB-C with the AirPods 4. With the long-awaited arrival of Macs with M4 chips, the transition would continue with computer accessories.
There release candidate of iOS 18.1, the last beta version before the deployment of an update to the general public, reveals the presence of new mouse, keyboard and trackpad designed by Apple.
Through one of its contributors, Aaron Perris, MacRumors specifically relays “references to a new Magic Mouse 2, a Magic Trackpad 2 and several Magic Keyboards, which would include versions with Touch ID and numeric keypads, as well as models without Touch”.
Although the mention of the USB-C port is not included, Apple faces a legal obligation compelling it to abandon his beloved Lightning. Indeed, European legislation coming into force on December 28, 2024 forces manufacturers to use this universal charging port for all their electronic devices, including computer accessories.
In addition to this port change, the media believes that the Magic Mouse's charging port could be moved to allow its use even when recharging.
The announcement of these Apple mice, keyboards and trackpads with USB-C port should logically coincide with the launch of new Macs, expected at the end of October 2024. As a reminder, we expect to see an iMac arrive there , A Even smaller Mac mini and MacBook Pro with M4 chips.
After these end-of-year announcements, Apple should put an end to Lightning in the spring with one last device transitioning to USB-C: iPhone SE 4.
