iOS 18.1: imminent, the hearing aid function of AirPods Pro 2 is ignoring France
The American press had the opportunity to try the functionality ofAirPods Pro 2 hearing aid. The latter aims to offer users prostheses, much more visible than traditional devices, to better hear the world around them, while protecting their hearing.
In total, three features are included. The first is called Hearing protectionand limits the impact of loud surrounding noise on users' hearing, while “preserving the sound signature of what they listen to”.
We are then entitled to the hearing test function, taking advantage of a clinical standard: pure tonal audiometry. To do this, all you need to do is bring headphones and an iPhone or iPad to obtain a result, which can in turn be shared with a specialist.
“The software played multiple sounds at different volumes and frequencies”reports Nicole Nguyen for the Wall Street Journal. The user then just has to tap the screen when they hear the sound to continue the test. After obtaining the results, AirPods Pro 2 transforms into a hearing aid, readjusting the level of sounds to the user's needs.
Apple underlines in passing “that sometimes it takes a few weeks to get used to the new sound”. Note that Beth Yauman, 74, received similar results to those of her doctor, which underlines the accuracy of the system developed by the Apple company.
The last function is obviously the hearing aid, resulting from the test. It is suitable for users with “mild to moderate hearing loss”reports Apple. As soon as it is activated, it allows you to appreciate “personalized dynamic adjustments so users experience amplified sounds around them in real time”.
Note, this AirPods Pro 2 hearing aid will arrive next week with iOS 18.1 and an update to the headphones. However, only people living in the United States and Canada will be entitled to it for the moment, specify release notes of the release candidate of the next iPhone update.
